What is RemoteTube?

RemoteTube is a free Chrome extension by ReMay that turns your smartphone into a remote control for YouTube on your PC or laptop. You pair your phone with a QR code and then control playback, volume and search from your phone's browser.

Do I need to install an app on my phone?

No. The remote opens in your phone's web browser (Safari, Chrome or any modern mobile browser) after you scan the QR code. There is nothing to download on your phone and no account to create.

Do my phone and PC need to be on the same Wi-Fi network?

No. RemoteTube pairs through encrypted WebSockets, so your PC can be on Ethernet and your phone on another Wi-Fi network or on mobile data.

Which browsers does RemoteTube work with?

On your computer, RemoteTube is installed from the Chrome Web Store and works in Google Chrome and Chromium-based browsers such as Microsoft Edge, Brave and Opera, on Windows, macOS, Linux and ChromeOS. On your phone, the remote works in any modern mobile browser on iPhone or Android.

Can I search for videos and pick the next one from my phone?

Yes. You can search YouTube from your phone and the video starts playing on your PC. You also see YouTube's recommended videos on your phone and can jump to the next video.

How is RemoteTube different from remote desktop apps?

Remote desktop apps like Chrome Remote Desktop or AnyDesk stream your whole screen to your phone, so you end up tapping tiny desktop buttons. RemoteTube only sends YouTube controls, so you get a touch-friendly remote, and nothing on your screen is captured.

Can't I just use youtube.com/tv to control YouTube on my PC?

YouTube's TV interface, which supports pairing a phone with a code, is built for smart TVs and consoles and is not available in regular desktop browsers. RemoteTube adds phone remote control to the normal YouTube website on your PC.

Is RemoteTube free? Does it collect my data?
